45% of lighting designers said that the difficulty of comparing data from different manufacturers was the biggest problem with information in the lighting industry. The inability to find key numbers was the second highest with 15% of lighting designers saying unclear specifications was the main problem. Confusion, misleading information and hype were also high on the list.

42% of consumers value honesty the most when it comes to buying products. For retailers, the main concern was low running cost, which 20% liked as the most important quality in a product. Price was selected by 10% of the retailers as being the most important thing.

Design manager at iGuzzini, Rory Marples, said: "Universally there is a concern about the reliability and veracity of the information that comes from manufacturers. Ideally, with a professional approach comes reliable information."

Roger Becket of Light Project added "I'm surprised, usually all I hear from lighting consultants is cost, cost, cost."
