A team of researchers have developed a device containing an LED to detect the virus.

Researchers have said that one of the problems with containing Ebola is that it could not be detected in the early stages of infection.

According to The Daily Mail, ‘it is a shoebox sized, battery-powered diagnostic device which is known as the single particle interferometric reflectance imaging sensor (SP-IRIS). It detects pathogens by shining a light reflected from the surface is modified by the presence of the particles producing a distinct signal that reveals the size and shape of each particle. The sensor surface is very large and can capture the tell-tale responses of up to a million nanoparticles’.

To simplify, it uses multi-colour LED sources to shine a light that reveals the size and shape of each particle therefore revealing the virus particles. With this machine, Ebola may be able to be contained.
